I used to play on this treehouse when I was a kid. As I grew over the years, it changed too. It used to have a roof and walls on it. When I outgrew the ceiling, off it went. When there just wasn't enough space within the walls to comfortably contain three friends carrying an arsenal of water guns and water balloons, off they came.
Occasionally I will climb up the stairs, avoiding the rotted out step, and sit up there during summer time, my back against the rough bark of the crab apple tree, drinking a beer, thinking about life, and maybe, every few minutes, looking around for the red or yellow flash of a water balloon flung my way.

My senior exhibition at Alfred University two weeks ago.
Four 29x29", four 14x14", and four 10x15".
All hand-printed gelatin silver photographs
The crookedness in the first image is residual from the panoramic stitching I had to do to document the wall, the frames were perfectly level in real life.

SUMMER THUNDER by CHRISTOPHER LANGE
I made this photograph last summer, standing on Vesey St. in Battery Park. The light had been incredible that afternoon, a mixture of hazy sun and dark skies. Eventually the clouds reached their breaking point and the torrent began.
The business day was coming to a close and all the suit-and-ties leaving work darted about like confused cats, hoping to stay dry at all costs. I constantly wiped the eyepiece of my viewfinder, which seemed to fog up again the instant I put my eye to it.
The water rushed over the curbs , ousting the businessmen from their hiding spot as another gust stole an umbrella. I shoved my camera inside my bag, stepped into the downpour from the cover of my awning, and walked to the corner of North End.
My shirt soaked through in the 20 seconds it took me to get there.

CLARK MEZZANINE by CHRISTOPHER LANGE
I leaned against the wall of the elevator as it crawled downward to the platform level of the Clark St. 2/3 station. Nervously thumbing the advance on my camera, I watched as the light of the mezzanine hallway slid upwards through the elevator windows as the car came to a halt. I snatched a frame as the doors opened, half hoping to catch someone unaware through the gap, half just wanting to get a picture of the doors sliding apart.
I let the camera fall to my side as I sprinted through the partially opened doorway and down to the platform just in time to see the doors of a Wall bound 2 jolt open for me. I landed in Manhattan a few minutes later, and emerged into a frigid gust of wind, and blinding early Spring light.
Project for today
is scanning all of my show negatives at 4000DPI, getting them cleaned and adjusted so that I have masters for inkjet printing should I ever choose to make a print without the dark arts.
